special education
A term associated with any type of educational services for people with disabilities used by U.S. public schools and educators under the U.S. Department of Education. The term may carry a negative connotation, but it is an official educational term as defined by the IDEA.
If a service or class is not associated with IDEA and is not specifically deemed special education by the Department of Education, do not use the term special education. Instead, use accessible education or accessible learning.
