product endorsement
An endorsement of a specific product or company can run afoul of 501(c)(3) nonprofit news regulations because it may be seen as an advertisement, even without money exchanging hands. It can lead to the organization paying taxes because of those statements. Likewise, it could be seen by readers as a direct link, favor, connection, or monetary connection between the organization and the product. For that reason, EAPM suggests nonprofit news outlets should avoid product endorsements.
